SPIRIT Offers Efficient MP3 Decoder Algorithm for ARM Platforms
The Software Ensures Best-in-Industry Technical Characteristics Combined with Lowest System Requirements
LONDON—(BUSINESS WIRE)—June 28, 2005— SPIRIT (www.spiritdsp.com/mp3_arm.html), the leading supplier of embedded software products for digital signal processing and multimedia, announces that its MP3 algorithm is now fully compliant with ARM platforms (ARM9e, ARM9, and ARM7).
The software performs real-time audio decoding starting at a low 10 MHz clock speed (on ARM9e). The new implementation fully takes advantage of Arm's DSP instruction set extensions, achieving 25% more efficiency compared with a dual-MAC 16-bit DSP's. Targeted for personal audio players and recorders, HDTV, STB, digital radio, and other audio systems, SPIRIT MP3 consumes as low as 7.5 MIPS and 17.5 KBytes of program memory. This outstanding performance is achieved with SPIRIT's unique technology that allows greatly improved efficiencies compared to conventional solutions thus achieving the industry's lowest MIPS and memory requirements.
This proprietary technology saves power consumption and prolongs battery-life in power sensitive portable applications. Economical memory requirements leave chip memory mostly free and available for integrating other audio and voice processing algorithms thus minimizing development costs and BOM costs. All this makes the device more compact and attractive for users.
The software supports all MP3 features, including Layers 1 and 2 that extends the range of applications where it can be used and makes SPIRIT MP3 solution universal software for audio devices designers.
"Combined with superb CD-audio quality, low system requirements and a wide range of supported features allow the software to be easily embedded into different audio systems from wide-dynamic range reproduction systems, like home theaters, to simple MP3 players." - says Andrew Sviridenko, SPIRIT's chairman.
