SoftRISC Incorporates First DSP Functionality for RISC-Based CPUs That Provides VoIP and Multimedia Without Loss of Voice Quality
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--April 6, 2006--SoftRISC, a leading provider of VoIP and multimedia software solutions for RISC platforms, today announced the first software for RISC-based CPUs that eliminates a separate DSP chip, as well as the need for discrete application chips such as an Echo Canceller, MP3 player, or MPEG4 player. This software enables VoIP and multimedia applications without any loss of voice or media quality, as measured by ITU, IEEE, and ETSI standards.
By eliminating the need for a separate DSP chip, and application chips, SoftRISC's field proven solution significantly reduces the cost of semiconductor bill of materials for VoIP and Multimedia applications by $10 to $20 (or more). The SoftRISC solution also reduces board space by about 20%, and design implementation time by 30-40%. Therefore, customers can develop a general purpose and simpler RISC based chips with reduced power consumption, and take advantage of utilizing existing resources for increased VoIP and media capabilities.
