PT13: A compact 8-bit microprocessor IP core for just $1000
April 14, 2017 -- SingMai have introduced the PT13 IP core, a compact, minimal memory, 8-bit microprocessor, and are offering it for just $1000 with an unlimited time/use license.
Although the ubiquitous ARM and 8051-like IP cores are available from many vendors, sometimes only a simple control application is required, such as I2C control, LCD character display control, remote control – RC5/6 decoding, and the reading of switches and encoders.
The PT13 requires less than 600 logic elements for an FPGA, or less than 7000 gates for an ASIC. As the stack pointer is implemented in registers external memory is limited to only parameter storage and a typical application might require just 64x8 bits of RAM and 512x8 bits of ROM. Over 45 instructions are available.
An editor and assembler is provided and the assembler can create Altera MIF memory files which can be Quartus compiled directly after assembly. An evaluation board is also available and many code examples are provided.
The PT13 is supplied as Verilog source code, allowing unlimited time/unit usage, allowing very cost effective multiple instantiations in a product.
