Qimonda Selects Denali to Enable Rapid Deployment of Industry's First GDDR5 Memories
Qimonda GDDR5 Devices Plus Denali's High-Quality Models Speed Graphics Systems Design
MUNICH, Germany and PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Aug. 21, 2007 -- Qimonda AG, a leading supplier of memory products, and Denali Software, Inc., a world-leading provider of electronic design automation (EDA) software and intellectual property (IP), today announced a collaboration to provide simulation models for the industry's first Graphics Double Data Rate 5 (GDDR5) high-end memory devices. Over the last several months, Denali and Qimonda have been supporting early adopters of GDDR5 with jointly verified simulation models from Denali. The GDDR5 memory devices from Qimonda are designed to meet the high-performance requirements from graphic applications on game consoles, desktop PCs and notebooks. Through this effort, mutual customers are able to access and benefit from new dynamic random access memory (DRAM) products with its exceptional performance and features.
"Qimonda is actively working with Denali to satisfy our customers' needs to use GDDR5 for their next-generation memory system designs," said Robert Feurle, vice president of Business Unit Graphics at Qimonda. "Qimonda selected Denali, for its superb reputation for memory system expertise and as the industry's leader for design and verification IP, to provide simulation models for our latest device family. We believe our mutual customers can confidently use our GDDR5 memory devices for their high-performance applications."
GDDR5 offers a low-power capability as well as providing a 3x performance increase over today's 800 MHz GDDR3 chips. In addition, it offers features that enable more robust system designs. The GDDR5 standard is currently jointly defined within JEDEC.
"This collaboration provides the first industry opportunity to realize the next-generation GDDR5 technology coupled with best-in class tools for fast and efficient deployment of memory subsystems," said David Lin, vice president, Product Marketing at Denali Software. "This collaboration, with Qimonda, is another benchmark of confidence by a world-leading memory vendor, as they leverage our expansive reach into end-customer designs."
