L&T Infotech to collaborate with BWCI on LTE Radio Access Test Bed development
Mumbai, June 28, 2010 -- L&T Infotech announced today their cooperation with Broadband Wireless Consortium of India (BWCI) for developing an LTE Radio Access Test Bed to create a technology demonstrator platform, to further research in LTE area, and accelerate the time-to-market for LTE technology providers.
L&T Infotech had previously announced the availability of LTE UE protocol stack, compliant to March 2009 3GPP Release 8, LTE specifications, as part of their IP portfolio. L&T Infotech has vast experience in wireless technologies like CDMA, UMTS, EVDO, WLAN and WiMAX and is a one-stop shop for Telecom User Equipment manufacturers.
As part of this program, L&T Infotech would be integrating its LTE UE stack with BWCI’s LTE Radio Access Test Bed. This integrated system can be used by technology providers to demonstrate and evaluate end-to-end LTE functionality.
“We are happy to be part of the consortium and look forward to working closely with the BWCI team to develop this LTE Test Bed,” says Mr. Sudip Banerjee, Chief Executive Officer, L&T Infotech, “This further strengthens our commitment to provide high quality solutions in the telecom space and to enable our clients deliver world-class products.”
BWCI is a strategic initiative of CEWiT (Centre of Excellence in Wireless Technologies). One of the primary objectives of BWCI is to develop an HW/SW technology demonstrator test bed to validate and evaluate emerging technologies. They participate in key global standards bodies and forums such as 3GPP, 3GPP2 and IEEE 802.16 to ensure that India's requirements are addressed and indigenously developed technologies are included in the standards.
“BWCI is delighted to collaborate with L&T Infotech, which has a strong portfolio of telecom engineering services and has long-term focus on 4G technologies like LTE and WiMAX,” says Dr. Bhaskar Ramamurthi, Professor at IIT Madras and currently the Chairman of BWCI. With reference to L&T Infotech and BWCI’s continued cooperation, Dr. Ramamurthi states, “The various R&D and Technology Demonstration projects we plan to take up together will help enhance the technology edge and also help take the Indian telecom engineering industry to higher levels of the value chain. We look forward to working with L&T Infotech on various activities in the areas of LTE and WiMAX.”
