IP Cores, Inc. Announces an Ultracompact 3DES IP Core
IP Cores, Inc. announces an ultracompact IP core supporting the NIST FIPS 46-3 Data Encryption Standard (DES) and Triple DES (TDEA). Starting at 3K ASIC gates, DES1 core provides an efficient solution for an SoC designer.
Palo Alto, California v -- February 13, 2007 -- IP Cores, Inc. today announced a release of an ultracompact DES / Triple DES core. The new DES1 IP core enables System on Chip (SoC) vendors to add DES and 3DES encryption to their designs at a very low cost in both chip area and power.
"Addition of the DES1 to our portfolio helps SoC designers to obtain all the security cores they need from a single source," said Dmitri Varsanofiev, CTO of IP Cores. "With the DES1 core, IP Cores is now able to help customers who have to use this established security standard in their design."
Well-Established Encryption Standard
Data Encryption Standard (DES) has been selected as a FIPS standard in 1976 and has withstood the test of time pretty well. Since the relatively short key length of original DES (56 bits) is no longer considered adequate, a typical application involves two (2DES) or three (3DES) encryption or decryption operations over the same block of data. Although being replaced by the newer Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), 2DES and 3DES is still used to secure financial transactions and cellular phone networks. Addressing the market demand for single source full suite of crypto cores, IP Cores’ DES1 implements the DES/2DES/3DES modes in a single core that uses only 3K ASIC gates. DES1 is designed for clock frequencies up to 750 MHz and throughputs up to 3 Gbps.
DES1 core contributes to the IP Cores’ fast-growing portfolio of security IP cores that includes an ultracompact AES core, CCM AES cores for IEEE 802.11, IEEE 802.15.3, IEEE 802.15.4 (Zigbee) standards, AES-GCM and XTS-AES scalable core families, combo GCM/XTS cores for IEEE P1619 and P1619.1 standards, hashing cores supporting SHA-1 and SHA-2, and an exponentiation accelerator.
