Imagination first to show new 3DMark OpenGL ES 3.0 Benchmark from Futuremark
MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS, Barcelona, Spain – 26 February, 2014 – Imagination Technologies (IMG.L) wowed visitors to Mobile World Congress today with the first public demonstration of 3DMark’s Cloud Gate benchmark test running on mobile hardware. 3DMark Cloud Gate is a new OpenGL ES 3.0 benchmark for mobile platforms from Futuremark, a leading provider of high-performance benchmarking software.
Imagination is exclusively demonstrating 3DMark Cloud Gate running on its PowerVR Series6 Rogue GPU at Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona (Hall 6, 6E30) from February 25-27.
3DMark is a popular cross-platform benchmark for PCs, notebooks and mobile devices. 3DMark Cloud Gate, previously only available on PCs and notebooks, has been adapted to run on Android and iOS devices using a state-of-the-art OpenGL ES 3.0 renderer.
Says Oliver Baltuch, president, Futuremark: “I am delighted that Imagination has chosen 3DMark to show off the compelling capabilities of their technology. 3DMark Cloud Gate is a very demanding benchmark, but it looks incredible running on Imagination’s impressive PowerVR GPUs.”
Says Tony King-Smith, EVP marketing, Imagination: “We are very pleased to be the first to demonstrate 3DMark Cloud Gate and its advanced OpenGL ES 3.0 features as the latest step in our long-standing partnership with Futuremark.”
Inside the 3DMark Cloud Gate demo on PowerVR Series6 GPUs
Taking advantage of OpenGL ES 3.0 API features that improve hardware and developer efficiency 3DMark Cloud Gate showcases the advantages of the PowerVR Series6 Rogue architecture.
The fully multi-threaded engine used in Cloud Gate implements a deferred renderer that first accumulates transformed geometry data, before computing per pixel lighting.
The lighting passes use the following advanced techniques:
- Shadow map using light volumes
- Attenuated volumetric illumination and ray casting
- Multiple render targets
- Particle system using transform feedback
- Depth of field
- Procedural FFT-based bloom filter using HDR render targets
3DMark Cloud Gate is the first benchmark for mobile platforms to make heavy use of HDR rendering along with deferred lighting, resulting in a unique workload for modern embedded graphics platforms. 3DMark Cloud Gate is available for Windows PCs today, and is coming soon to Android and iOS: http://www.futuremark.com/3dmark.
