Content Sharing Solution for Android Devices Utilizing DLNA and Secure DTCP-IP
Discretix hardware-assisted DRM client integrated with AwoX mediaCTRL™ mobile edition for cross-device content sharing
IBC2011, RAI AMSTERDAM, NL – September 09, 2011 – Discretix, the leading provider of field-proven content protection and embedded security solutions and AwoX, a leading international supplier of Internet media devices, announced the availability of a secure DTCP-IP solution for Android devices.
The variety of new devices capable to consuming and displaying HD content has had a major impact on today's home entertainment market. These new smartphones, tablets, connected TVs, hybrid set-top boxes and game consoles, are driving the need for easy to use, cross-device content sharing solutions. To address this need Discretix and AwoX have partnered to offer a joint DTCP-IP solution. Based on the Discretix hardware-assisted DRM client in combination with AwoX's mediaCTRL™ mobile edition, the solution is in full compliance with the security requirement of content owners.
The DTCP-IP's link protection technology protects content in-motion between home entertainment devices against unauthorized access, while ensuring that content can be viewed and copied on authorized devices. DTCP enables content to be transmitted, in an encrypted form, only to those home network devices that have authenticated compliance with DTCP. The stringent security requirements set by major studios and content providers coupled with the performance essential for HD video mandate the use of hardware-assisted DRM solutions.
The Discretix hardware-assisted DRM client reinforces the DTCP solution by protecting permanent key material, sensitive data and premium content. A key component of the Discretix offering is its field-proven Multi-Scheme DRM Client which includes all of the essential elements necessary for a robust implementation on open operating systems such as Android, MeeGo and Linux. The client is available on all of the leading mobile platforms in the market today.
The Awox mediaCTRL™ mobile edition provides handset OEMs and ODMs with a complete solution to integrate the next generation of mobile multimedia features in their product. AwoX mediaCTRL™ is DLNA certified and provides guaranteed interoperability with thousands of other DLNA certified home devices. Awox mediaCTRL™ currently supports the leading mobile platforms and chipsets for all advanced DLNA use cases including "Play To" and the new DLNA Interoperability Guidelines of Protected Streaming of Premium Video.
