Overview

The MIPI® D-PHY TX+ is a proprietary implementation of the MIPI Camera Serial Interface 2 (CSI-2) and Display Serial Interface (DSI) D-PHY Transmitter. It is optimized to achieve full-speed production testing, in-system testing, and higher performance compared to traditional configurations, while reducing area and standby power.

As MIPI adoption continues to expand beyond its traditional mobile platform use-cases into safety sensitive applications such as automotive and medical, full-speed, in-system testability and diagnostics have become of paramount importance. The TX+ configuration was created to address those safety and reliability sensitive applications.

Full-speed production testing using traditional D-PHY requires the use of Universal configuration, which includes multiple high-speed and low-power receivers not required for functional operation. The proprietary TX+ configuration achieves this with minimal area overhead, resulting in a substantial reduction of 30% in area and 40% in standby power. That also enables higher data rate operation by minimizing the capacitive load at the high-speed serial interface pins and isolating the loop back test from any loading on the serial interface pins, while achieving 100% test coverage of the complete IP.

The receiver implemented in the TX+ provides the testability and diagnostics of the D-PHY Universal configuration with the smaller footprint and improved performance of D-PHY TX. The D-PHY TX+ is truly the best of both.

MIPI M-PHY takes center stage

The curtain is up and the M-PHY specification is taking center stage, positioned to handle the many different roles required for a faster, more reliable, physical interface layer (PHY Layer) on mobile devices.

Dual Mode C-PHY/D-PHY: Enabling Next Generation of VR Displays

For many years, Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) were strongly linked to gaming and entertainment applications. Today, the VR/AR and their combined version, Mixed Reality (MR), have their applications extended to other domains like healthcare, military, education, manufacturing, retail, marketing and advertising. What are the challenges for next generation VR displays? What makes the MIPI interfaces the best fit for VR/AR/MR applications?

Demystifying MIPI C-PHY / DPHY Subsystem

The newest member of the MIPI® PHY family, the C-PHY, arrived in October 2014 to a mixture of excitement and apprehension. How would this new C-PHY compare to the MIPI D-PHY and M-PHY®? What would differentiate the C-PHY, and would it be compatible enough with the D-PHY so that both could coexist in a hybrid subsystem? Now, years later, the answers are clear.

Can MIPI and MDDI Co-Exist?

Since MIPI and MDDI standards both target interfaces to cameras and displays on mobile devices, are two separate standards really needed?
