Overview

The eSi-Kalman core provides hardware acceleration for Kalman Filtering (KF) and related target tracking algorithms, such as measurement to track association. Such functions are commonly implemented in automotive and military radar systems for target tracking, and also in navigation systems such as GPS/GNSS.

Key features

  • Full hardware acceleration of Linear KF (LKF) .
  • Hardware acceleration of Extended (non-linear) KF (EKF), with non-linear function transformations and Jacobian matrices computed externally .
  • Core can be sequenced for computing cost functions involved in measurement-to-track association algorithms.
  • Flexible real-time selection of state, measurement and control input vector dimensionalities.
  • Numerically stable formulation for preventing divergence due to numerical error accumulation
  • Single precision floating point arithmetic for high precision/dynamic range, and compatibility with software implementations.
  • Suitable for ASIC and FPGA.
  • AMBA 4 APB/AXI4-streaming interface

Benefits

  • Removes a compute intensive task away from the microprocessor to a predictable, low-latency offload engine
  • Enables more objects to be tracked at very high update rates
  • Portable to either ASIC or FPGA target architecture
  • Silicon proven in ISO-26262 certified products

Applications

  • Automotive driver assistance radar
  • Roadside traffic management radar
  • Military radar
