Overview

The Atria Logic AL-H264E-SW is a software-based, low power H.264 (AVC) Baseline Profile video encoder IP core, targeted for mobile and non-mobile, low power devices in industrial, medical and CE applications. Industrial applications include remote monitoring of manufacturing plants, video surveillance (IP cameras and network recorders), broadcast/streaming weather cams and portable video recorders, train/bus/truck/airplane black box recorders. Medical applications include operating theater recorders and IP cameras, as well as PACS video archiving. CE applications include action cams, home surveillance cams, netbooks, tablets and smartphones.

The encoder supports AVC Baseline Profile I+P encoding up to Level 4.1 (1080p30), and supports both single-pass variable bit rate (VBR) and constant bit rate (CBR) encoding. The encoder is fully H.264 standards compliant, with support for all block sizes for inter and intra prediction,1/2 and 1/4 pel prediction, unconstrained intra prediction and cross-frame boundary motion estimation modes. An in-loop deblocking filter is also included for enhanced video quality (i.e., bit rates). Support for rate distortion optimization for mode decisions provides exceptional video quality at low bit rates.

The implementation includes power-optimizing algorithms that enable the encoder to run at very low power in a Linux or MS Windows environment on a wide range of ARM processors, such as ARM7, ARM9, ARM9E and ARM11, as well as on the EZchip Tilera TilePro64 processors.
