U.S. Restricts EDA Software Sales to China
Curbs on design software escalate tech war and hit western firms.

The U.S. Commerce Department has reportedly directed leading American and European electronic design automation (EDA) software suppliers to halt sales to China without first obtaining an export license. This move marks a significant escalation in Washington’s efforts to impede China’s technological advancement, particularly in developing advanced semiconductors.
EDA software is a critical component in the global semiconductor supply chain, enabling designers and manufacturers to develop and test complex integrated circuits that power everything from smartphones to artificial intelligence systems.
