Toshiba Launches Multi-function ARM Cortex-M0-core-based Microcontroller with Low Pin Count
TOKYO-- August 26, 2014 -- Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO:6502) today announced the launch of a new microcontroller, “TMPM037FWUG”, as the latest addition to its ARM® Cortex®-M0-core-based TX00 series. The microcontroller is designed for motor control applications in equipment such as MFPs (multifunction printers) and printers. Sample shipments start today.
The development of highly sophisticated motor control applications in equipment such as MFPs and printers requires various functions, including multiple communication channels that can communicate with the main control device and peripheral devices, interfaces for reading numerical values from sensors, and a timer function that can output pulses to control a motor, such as a stepping motor or DC motor.
While having a lower pin count, the new microcontroller integrates a 6-channel serial interface, an 8-channel 10-bit A/D converter and a 10-channel timer with a Programmable Pulse Generator (PPG). This eliminates the need for parts such as interface extension ICs and also contributes to lower manufacturing cost. The microcontroller also has a bit-band processing function that supports access and control of specific bits. This increases bit manipulation efficiency and allows optimization of the product’s small-capacity flash memory.
Using the same ARM® Cortex®-M-core as the TX03 and the TX04 series, TMPM037FWUG can improve efficiency and reduce the cost by sharing the development tools for the main control device of medium to large systems.
Applications
