While software automated testing is nothing new, adding metrics so that managers can time the release of new software products is. The service is being offered by Reasoning, who take blocks of code written in C or C++, and run it through it recently renamed Illuma suite. Illuma, formerly known as Instant QA now has the ability to add defect data reports that highlight the exact location of potential crash, or data corrupting errors. The defect density data shows managers the number of errors per thousand lines of code -- 'especially useful where a project has a number of different software sub-contractors writing code,' said managing director John Rodford.
