Magis demos synchronous MAC with 802.11a radio

MANHASSET, N.Y. Magis Networks Inc. has demonstrated its IEEE 802.11a-compliant Air5 wireless LAN technology which uses proprietary physical and media-access-control technologies to deliver 40 Mbits/second over distances of 250 feet. The company is targeting its solution at the home with the goal of delivering up to five standard-definition digital TV channels simultaneously. At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last week, Magis Networks announced a technical-services agreement with Motorola's Broadband Communications Sector. Under the agreement, Motorola will provide Magis with technical support services, including the alignment of Magis' technology road maps and feature set direction, and the enabling of interoperability between Motorola equipment and Magis' Air5-based products. The two companies will also participate in joint marketing and adv ertising. Motorola has also made an investment in Magis to help fund chip set development.
