BrainChip and Neuromorphyx Announce an AKD1500 Embedded Developer Board, Bringing Neuromorphic AI to the Embedded Engineering Community
The partnership expands access to neuromorphic AI silicon through a compact, ultra-low-power AKD1500-based BrainBoard1500 platform designed, manufactured and sold by Neuromorphyx
LAGUNA HILLS, Calif. — August 18, 2026 — BrainChip Holdings Ltd. (ASX: BRN, OTCQX: BRCHF, BCHPY), the first commercial producer of neuromorphic artificial intelligence technology, today announced a partnership with Neuromorphyx™ (Nex Novus d.o.o.), a Croatian deep-tech neuromorphic products company. The BrainBoard1500 is a compact developer and evaluation board designed and manufactured by Neuromorphyx around BrainChip’s AKD1500 neural-network accelerator.
Targeting the embedded developer community, the BrainBoard1500 provides:
Arduino Nicla-form-factor and direct connector compatibility- Open-source Arduino Nicla library and drivers
- Direct SPI/QSPI path for running spiking neural network models on sensor data, with I2C system control as well as onboard model flash
- A two-channel current monitor supporting real-time power profiling of AKD1500 inference workloads and evaluation of sleep/wake configurations
Compared with larger, host-centric M.2- or PCIe-based evaluation hardware, BrainBoard1500 provides the direct embedded interface needed to assess the AKD1500 under the power, latency, size and system constraints of compact edge devices. The initial out-of-the-box software release is supported through the Neuromorphyx Arduino library and drivers. BrainBoard1500’s standard SPI/QSPI architecture also provides an open-source path for software adaptation ports to widely used sensor and MCU hardware ecosystems—including Raspberry Pi, Seeed Studio/XIAO, OpenMV, Espressif, DFRobot, Adafruit, SparkFun, STMicroelectronics and other ecosystems—as well as custom MCU and FPGA hosts.
“Partnering with Neuromorphyx puts the AKD1500 in the hands of developers and makers in a form factor and software ecosystem they already know,” said BrainChip CEO Sean Hehir. “BrainBoard1500 is exactly the kind of partner-led product that extends Akida’s reach into developer communities and opens the door to broader adoption across education, industrial and embedded AI.”
“Neuromorphyx develops complete neuromorphic vision products for demanding robotics, space, defense, automotive and industrial applications,” said Neuromorphyx CEO Ivan Projić. “BrainBoard1500 extends that work by making the AKD1500 easier to combine with existing Arduino Nicla boards and software, where customers can run, measure and refine SNN models on the BrainChip AKD1500 device, which is also integrated into our full NeuroReflex stack for event-based sensing, FPGA preprocessing and neuromorphic inference.”
Neuromorphyx created the BrainBoard1500 hardware architecture, electronics, PCB manufacturing design and Arduino-oriented software path, including the board library, drivers and Akida Engine integration. BrainChip supplies AKD1500 chips and technical enablement packages. BrainChip will also support customer-ready AI model repositories targeting keyword spotting, visual wake words and human activity recognition.
BrainBoard1500 will initially be available through the Neuromorphyx store: BrainBoard1500 Standalone AKD1500 Co-Processor Board, together with its open-source Arduino software repository, datasheet, and supporting documentation. BrainChip and Neuromorphyx plan to expand availability through additional distribution, education and approved ecosystem channels.
