CAMBRIDGE, U.K.--ARM Ltd. today announced it has strengthened its engineering staff with the purchase of technologies and assets from privately-held Noral Micrologics Ltd., a 17-year-old U.K. company specializing design of tools for advanced embedded systems development and debug. ARM said a 10-person engineering team form Noral will form a new design center in north west England, focusing on development of advanced tools for embedded RISC processors. ARM said products incorporating the Noral technology will be introduced later this year. "The combination of this acquisition and the recent purchase of Allant Software -- now our Walnut Creek Design Center -- strengthens our engineering team, allowing us to further enhance the complete portfolio of ARM development tool products," said Derek Morris, general manager of ARM's Development Systems Division. The purchase of Allant in Walnut Creek, Calif., provided ARM with technology, called Aspex, whic h enables debug of digital signal processors and RISC processors with a single system (see Sept. 20 story). Terms of the purchase were not released.
