ARM revenues rise 5% sequentially with growth in licensing pacts

CAMBRIDGE, England -- ARM Holdings plc today reported a 5% sequential increase in total revenues to £42.1 million ($28.6 million) in the first quarter of 2002 compared to £40.2 million in Q4 of 2001. ARM's Revenues were 30% higher than £32.5 million in the first quarter of 2001. ARM's income before income tax for the first quarter of 2002 was £15.7 million ($10.9 million) or 37% of revenues compared to £13.8 million or 34% of revenues in the fourth quarter of 2001 and £11.4 million or 35% of revenues in the first quarter of 2001. Earnings per fully diluted share were 1.0 pence (4.4 cents per American Depositary Shares of three shares), compared to 0.8 pence (or 3.2 cents per ADS) in the same quarter last year. "Licensing momentum, both to existing and new partners, gathered pace in the quarter with 22 licenses being signed compared to 15 in the fourth quarter of 2001," said Warren East, chief executive offi cer of ARM. "The importance of non-CPU licensing has also grown in the quarter with additional hardware platform, software application and peripherals licenses being signed." ARM's license revenues totaled £23.6 million, compared to £22.7 million in Q4. The company's royalty revenues fell by 6% to £6.4 million pounds in the first quarter compared to £6.8 million pounds in Q4 of 2001.
