Achronix's foundry pact with Intel: how big a deal?
Achronix Semiconductor Corp. gained a certain amount of thunder Nov. 1 with the announcement that its Speedster 22i FPGA family would be fabricated in Intel Corp.’s 22-nm process technology. This warrants attention only because Intel rarely announces any foundry partners, and Achronix deserves a special nod for concluding a fab pact with a company with U.S. headquarters. Heck, come to think of it, a US-based company with its own foundry located either stateside or in Asia is getting to be an endangered species.
