SNOWBUSH microelectronics Announces 10-Bit, 140 MSPS, ADC IP Core in Foundry Standard 0.18 um CMOS Process

High Speed ADC Responds to the Needs of Power Line Networking, Wireless Networking, Data Acquisition and Video Graphics Markets

TORONTO --  Jan. 23, 2006 -- SNOWBUSH microelectronics today announced the availability of a silicon proven, 10 bit, 140 MSPS ADC IP core in a foundry standard 0.18um CMOS. The ADC features an ENOB of 8.6 bits at 140 MSPS and an ENOB of 9.0 bits at 120 MSPS.

"This state of the art ADC will enable a large variety of systems developers to reduce system costs. It allows them to include the high performance ADC they need in their next ASIC or SOC instead of using a more power hungry external component. We can customize it and add a variety of analog front ends to meet the needs of a wide variety of applications," said Dr. Ken Martin, SNOWBUSH President, well known educator and author of the industry standard graduate textbook Analog Integrated Circuit Design. "This ADC is the first of a family of ADC IP cores that we plan to extend to 12 and 14 bits, and since it uses only a single 1.8V supply, it can be easily ported to 90nm."

The 10-bit pipeline ADC core includes 8, 1.5-bit pipeline stages and a backend 2-bit flash ADC. In order to reduce the power consumption, the pipeline stages are scaled down proportional to their required accuracy. Power consumption is only 140mW when operating at 140 MHz and it is reduced at lower frequencies. Excellent dynamic performance and linearity are maintained throughout the full range of operating frequencies. The ADC has a silicon area of less than 1.3 mm(2).
