PowerVR GPUs from Imagination pass OpenVX conformance with Khronos
Enabling vision application developers to harness the power of the Rogue architecture
International CES, Las Vegas – 6th January, 2016 – Imagination Technologies (IMG.L) announces that its PowerVR Rogue Series6 GPUs have achieved Khronos OpenVX™ 1.0.1 conformance. With OpenVX, developers can run fully optimized vision algorithms on highly parallel, power-efficient PowerVR GPUs that are used in many of the world’s leading smartphones, tablets and other products.
OpenVX is an open, royalty-free standard for cross platform acceleration of computer vision applications. It enables performance and power-optimized computer vision processing, especially important in embedded and real-time uses cases such as face, body and gesture tracking, smart video surveillance, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), object and scene reconstruction, augmented reality, visual inspection, robotics and more. PowerVR Series6 GPUs, which are already shipping in high volumes worldwide, are optimized to enable developers to use OpenVX to access the full processing horsepower of the Rogue architecture.
Says Peter McGuinness, director of multimedia technology marketing, Imagination: “Vision processing is at the heart of numerous innovations across nearly every application area that will fundamentally change the way in which we interact with the world. Imagination’s IP cores including PowerVR multimedia processors and MIPS CPUs are used in an increasing number of vision applications in an array of products. OpenVX 1.0.1 is a valuable starting point for accelerating creation and adoption of vision applications, and we’re pleased to report that we’ve achieved conformance on production silicon.”
Says Victor Erukhimov, president of Itseez and chairman of the Khronos OpenVX working group: “OpenVX provides developers with an out-of-the-box vision acceleration framework optimized for low-power, real-time mobile and embedded use cases. OpenVX is portable across diverse heterogeneous processors including ISPs, dedicated hardware, DSPs and DSP arrays, multi-core CPUs and of course GPUs such as Imagination’s PowerVR. We’re delighted that developers can leverage the power of OpenVX on PowerVR GPUs which are at the heart of many mobile, automotive and embedded devices. This helps to proliferate OpenVX and enable creation of exciting next-generation vision based applications.”
