Mobiveil Targets Altera's Arria V SoCs for Its NVMStor Enterprise SSD Storage Platform

Solution Enables the Acceleration of NVM Express-Based SSD Product Development

MILPITAS, CA-- June 02, 2014 - Mobiveil, Inc, a fast growing supplier of silicon intellectual property (SIP), platforms and IP-enabled design services, today announced it has collaborated with Altera Corporation to port its NVMStor™ NVM Express platform to the Altera® Arria® V SoC. This platform provides equipment manufacturers and systems designers a highly configurable solid-state drive (SSD) solution that can be targeted for different flash capacity and performance requirements.

Mobiveil's NVMStor platform is comprised of all the essential IP components for a complete enterprise SSD storage solution: PCI Express, NVM Express, DDR3 and NAND flash controllers along with driver firmware for the dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor integrated in the Arria V SoC. The heart of the NVMStor solution is Mobiveil's University Of New Hampshire InterOperability lab certified (UNH-IOL) UNEX™ NVM Express Controller.

The Arria V SoC-based Mobiveil NVMStor platform delivers a programmable platform for storage and memory applications. A propriety and tightly coupled interface between Arria V SoC's PCIe Gen3 hard IP and UNEX NVMe core enables designers to reduce development time, resources, latency and power while maximizing the NVMe interface performance.

Altera's 28 nm Arria V SoCs integrate a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor consisting of processor, peripherals, and memory interfaces within the FPGA fabric using a high-bandwidth interconnect backbone. The SoC combines the performance and power savings of hard intellectual property (IP) with the flexibility of programmable logic. The FPGA fabric permits connections to an infinite array of nonvolatile and volatile memory technologies. Providing an embedded ARM processor allows for flexibility in software and configurable logic options. The combined solution makes for a very formative storage and memory subsystem.

"Enabling the NVM Express with our FPGAs provides designers a programmable platform for storage and memory applications which gives them greater flexibility in their product development efforts," said Michael Strickland, director, computer and storage business unit at Altera. "Pairing these solutions lets them benefit from the performance and power savings of hard intellectual property (IP) with the flexibility of programmable logic to achieve a competitive advantage in the market."

We are extremely pleased to work with Altera to integrate our platform in Arria SoC devices," said Ravi Thummarukudy, CEO of Mobiveil, Inc. "This is also a new approach in the semiconductor IP market as instead of IP components, we are offering a complete hardware-software subsystem that the customers can configure for quick product launch."

Mobiveil's IP team has more than twelve years of experience in successful IP development starting with Hypertransport, PCI Express, Serial RapidIO and Ethernet. The interface IPs designed by the team are integrated in hundreds of SoC designs and shipped in millions of devices
