MIPS Technologies licenses 64-Bit processor core to Agilent Technologies
MIPS TECHNOLOGIES LICENSES 64-BIT PROCESSOR CORE TO AGILENT TECHNOLOGIES
Agilent Chooses MIPS64 20Kc, the Industry’s Fastest Licensable Core,
for Design Flexibility, Ease of Integration into High-Performance SoC Applications
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., April 11, 2001 MIPS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: MIPS, MIPSB), a leading provider of industry-standard processor and architectures and cores for digital consumer and network applications, announced that it licensed its high performance 64-bit MIPS64 20Kc processor core to Agilent Technologies, Inc.
The 20Kc processor core is the industry’s fastest licensable 64-bit core and is ideal for semiconductor and system OEM companies who want the highest performance available for cost-sensitive volume applications. Designed to be dropped into system-on-a-chip (SoC) designs, it offers fast time-to-market advantages. Features of this superscalar core include true 64-bit integer and floating-point performance of 1500 MIPS and 3 GFLOPS, with the ability to scale to over 1 GHz in future process technologies. The MIPS-3D™ enhanced floating-point unit achieves 3D geometry processing performance of 37 million polygons per second, enabling new digital entertainment applications with lifelike graphics.
“The 20Kc core adds to our extensive IP library, giving us the capability to address 64-bit applications,” said Kathy Tobin, business unit manager at Agilent. “With over twenty years experience designing high-performance, cost-effective ASICs, we look forward to integrating the 20Kc capabilities to produce next-generation SoC solutions.”
“Agilent is a global leader with an impressive legacy in the high-tech industry, and we are delighted to welcome them to the MIPS community,” said Derek Meyer, vice president of world wide field operations at MIPS Technologies. “Our strategy is to deliver superior processor technology to our customers, around which they can innovate and differentiate based on their expertise. The MIPS64 20Kc core does just that and provides our licensees with an excellent foundation for future SoCs.”
The MIPS architecture is widely supported by hundreds of third-party software development and hardware integration tools, operating systems, integrated development environments, and development systems.
