MediaTek licences Trustonic Trusted Execution Environment
MediaTek smartphone platforms tap into growing ecosystem of secure, personalised services
London, 30 July 2013 – MediaTek and Trustonic today announced a strategic partnership to embed the Trustonic Trusted Execution Environment (TEE), <t™-base, into MediaTek system-on-chip (SoC) solutions to enable secure apps for smart connected devices. With best-in-class security, MediaTek chipsets will unlock a range of new user experiences by providing developers with access to a wide range of hardware security capabilities on which to develop innovative services, from premium content anywhere, to simpler, faster, safer payments, and BYOD.
The MediaTek and Trustonic collaboration will drive trusted technology across a wide spectrum of consumer devices, from high-end super-phones to the heart of mass-market consumer electronic devices. The same user experiences currently being enabled in premium devices will now be accessible to all product categories, enabling Mobile Network Operators and Device Manufacturers to offer a consistent and unrivalled portfolio to customers. This will:
- Enhance user confidence in the security of over-the-air / network services
- Streamline distribution, protection and control of premium as well as sensitive content across devices
- Offer high assurance data protection compliance, with enhanced user productivity in enterprise contexts
- Enable advanced services and experiences to be installed, activated and personalised, on demand by the user
"As a leader in mobile SoC solutions, MediaTek is enabling its smartphone product portfolio with TEE to bring mobile commerce, secure entertainment and a whole host of other services to consumers. MediaTek smartphone solutions with <t-base integrated will be available in Q4 2013." said Mohit Bhushan, General Manager of Corporate Marketing, MediaTek.
MediaTek will have access to Trustonic’s extensive and expanding partner ecosystem, particularly in the content distribution industry where TEEs are required to protect premium content, such as HD, 4K/UltraHD and Early Window Release content. Moreover, this partnership will enable other robust user-friendly security features, such as user authentication that run independently from the Operating System (OS). Trusted user interfaces and biometric pattern matching will enhance the user experience of MediaTek powered devices.
“Trustonic has a compelling ecosystem of service providers operating in payment, content protection and enterprise security markets, coupled with the world's most advanced and mature TEE roadmap with remote management capability,” said Ben Cade, CEO of Trustonic. “With MediaTek on-board, we speak for our ecosystem in saying that we're excited to see a path to broad deployment in mass market consumer electronic devices.”
About the Trustonic TEE <t-base
The <t-base provides a trusted foundation for smart connected devices: a hardware-backed security environment that ensures sensitive data is stored, processed and protected. It features a built-in remote provisioning capability for the Trustonic ecosystem, allowing the remote deployment of trusted applications into <t-base-enabled devices. The <t-base allows secure access to information and data on the smart device, isolated from the rich mobile OS. Users can now transact with trust on their smart connected devices – be it at work, mobile banking and payment, or entertainment and content services.

About Trustonic
Trust. It’s a simple word but a critical concept – especially when it comes to our connected lives... Without trust, the world is a more difficult place; when we can’t trust it’s harder to work, socialize, shop and even enjoy the entertainment we love. Bolt-on security causes friction and slows down our mobile lives, but with integral trust, we speed freely on our way to doing some pretty amazing things.
Trustonic integrates a new level of security directly into the connected devices closest to us. By securing trust directly into the devices through which we access our connected world, Trustonic is simplifying everything from mobile shopping to entertainment to collaborating with colleagues. That foundation of trust means it’s even easier to do more of the things that make us who we are.
That’s why companies like 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, Cisco, Discretix, Good Technology, Irdeto, MasterCard, NVIDIA, Samsung Electronics, Sprint, Symantec, INSIDE Secure and Wave Systems count on Trustonic to protect and unleash a wide variety of powerful, personalised services on your devices.
Trustonic is a privately held company, formed initially as a joint venture between ARM, Gemalto and Giesecke & Devrient (G&D). To learn more about Trustonic and how it’s making your connected world a better place visit us at www.trustonic.com
