Imagination passes 200 million unit milestone
September 8, 2009
-- Imagination Technologies, a leading multimedia chip technologies company, reports that cores from its current silicon IP families, META, ENSIGMA and POWERVR, have shipped in over 200 million system-on-chip (SoC) devices*.
With its technology having shipped in over 175 smartphones and media players Imagination is the leading supplier of graphics for mobile applications. Its graphics and video technologies are also available in over 75 netbook/MID products and dozens of TV, STB and navigation devices. The company’s processor and communications technology has been deployed in TV, mobile TV, digital radio and connected audio products with a growing range of design wins in the pipeline.
Through enabling its partners to innovate in emerging markets Imagination has developed a worldwide user base for its technologies which is growing in excess of 50% year on year.
Imagination, which specialises in IP cores for SoC integration, believes its success is indicative of a trend in the industry towards complex SoCs which integrate a wide range of capabilities enabling them to be programmed or configured for use in many functional and geographic markets. Imagination’s IP can be used to create comprehensive SoCs for consumer entertainment and communications, or combined with the full range of 3rd party and proprietary IP.
Imagination’s technology is used by leading semiconductor companies including, Intel, NEC, Renesas, Samsung and Texas Instruments, and by top consumer electronics brands including Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Nokia, Dell, Apple and Asus.
Says Hossein Yassaie, CEO, Imagination: “Successful semiconductor companies are continuing to invest in R&D, even while cutting back on capital outlay and killing off older technologies and production methods. They know that new and competitive designs are the key to a successful exit from the recession. No semiconductor company has the luxury of reinventing market-leading solutions that already exist. Imagination’s technology is proven and uniquely capable for the core functions in today’s application SoC.”
