Fresco Logic Charges Ahead with USB Type-C Applications and Power Delivery
Eight New Products including the World's 1st USB3.1 Type-C Hub and Smallest E-Marker chip for “Smart” Cables
TAIPEI, Taiwan -- May 26, 2015 -- Fresco Logic, a global market leader that develops advanced connectivity technologies and ICs, today introduced two new product families targeting the Type-C connector recently introduced across a number of consumer products including the Nokia N1, Apple MacBook, and Google Chromebook Pixel 2. These are the first wave of products featuring what many believe will become the next ubiquitous connection technology. The FL5000 product line is Fresco Logic’s USB3.1 hub series that integrates Type-C capabilities and includes a fully programmable multi-port PD 2.0 controller in a single chip; the FL7000 product line includes the world’s smallest E-Marker chip in a 1.5mm2 wafer level chip scale package (WLCSP) for Type-C cable identification, two highly capable PD controllers that are tailored to meet the needs of upstream or downstream applications, and a Type-C video solution rounds out the new product offerings. The FL5000 and FL7000 product lines provide total Type-C solutions for Notebooks, Mobile phones, port expansion, accessories and next generation cables.
The USB Type-C standard is rapidly gaining momentum in the market place because of its combination of Power Delivery 2.0, SuperSpeed USB Data, DisplayPort video and user-friendly reversible cables and connectors. The Type-C standard allows PC and Mobile OEMs and ODMs to design ultra-slim form factor products with a single convenient connector that can deliver multiple protocols along with up to 100W of fast-charging power.
“We have applied over 30 years of system, component, and IP design expertise, and close partnerships with industry leaders to architect Type-C and Power Delivery silicon products. We’re excited to be launching 8 new products simultaneously into this high-growth area; certainly a new record for us,” said Robert McVay, CTO of Fresco Logic. “Just as with USB 3.0, our total solutions and reference designs with key partners enable fast deployment of USB Type-C end products into the market, delivering great benefits to our customers.”
Products: FL5002 is Fresco Logic’s flagship USB3.1 Type-C hub controller chip, integrating five Type-C port controllers and full PD2.0 functionality, also with flexible interfaces for easy SoC system integration. Joining FL5002 are the FL5000 and FL5001, in smaller form factors and targeted for mobile and mini-docking applications. FL7001 is the world’s smallest E-Marker chip, that comes in a WLCSP package measuring just 1.5mm2, for ultra-compact designs. FL7002 targets the mobile phone and power supply markets, while FL7003 and FL7004 offer features needed for notebooks, laptops, dongles, mini-docks and other accessories.
The FL5000 Series is available to early strategic partners now, and general availability is Q4 2015. The FL7001 E-Marker solution is available to early adopters now, and general availability is Q3. Other products in the FL7000 Family will follow in Q4 this year.
