BANGALORE, India — Five unnamed Indian companies have joined ARM Holdings plc's "DesignStart" program, downloading ARM7TDMI design kits. The program is aimed at enabling companies with little funds to move ahead with designs rather than requiring them to shell out license fees at the start.
Roughly 100 similar companies worldwide have made downloads under this program, which was created by ARM last year, the company said.
The DesignStart program enables qualified customers to download the kit free of charge from the ARM Web site, allowing designers to undertake most design activities, including place-and-route, software development and design and system verification, before to obtaining a full ARM Foundry Program License. The ARM kits are currently available in 0.18 micron processes at leading foundries Chartered Semiconductor, SMIC, TSMC, and UMC.
