Chips&Media Delivers its First AVS+ Core to Address the Growing Digital Set-top box Market in China
Chips&Media’s latest CODA9 family supporting AVS+, CODA966 and CODA988, will be used in digital TV / STB SoCs for Chinese Satellite, Cable, IP and Terrestrial market
Seoul, Korea – August 1, 2013 – Chips&Media,Inc., - a leading company in silicon video Intellectual Property (IP) – announced today that it has delivered its CODA966 and CODA988, the first AVS+ enabled cores to a couple of leading semiconductor companies.
The new Video and Audio Coding standard of China (AVS+) is already being used on a trial basis for 3D satellite broadcasting in China. China Central Television (CCTV), a national TV station of China, officially announced that by the end of 2013 it will complete trials of AVS+ satellite broadcasting and begin HD broadcasting service. AVS+ will certainly be the dominant standard as one of the video format for China Satellite broadcasting as well as Terrestrial broadcasting.
CODA966 is a hardware codec IP that is capable of 1080p video encoding at 30fps and decoding at 60fps with almost all video industry standards including H.264, MVC, H.263, MPEG1/2/4, VC-1, Theora, VP8, RealVideo and AVS and now AVS+ as well as Google’s image format WebP, which recently decided to be used by Facebook. CODA988 is also based on the same decoder platform with CODA966 and has strengthened high quality encoding capabilities up to 1080p60 with H.264 High Profile.
