Pigeon Point Systems Ships ATCA Starter Kits Based on Actel Fusion Mixed-Signal FPGA
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., April 15, 2009
— Adding to its growing portfolio of management solutions for the expanding TCA market, Pigeon Point Systems and its parent, Actel Corporation (Nasdaq: ACTL), today announced that Pigeon Point Systems is now shipping AdvancedTCA® (ATCA) Board Management Reference (BMR) starter kits for Actel's Fusion® mixed-signal FPGAs. These new, comprehensive development platforms for ATCA hardware platform management employ the Actel Fusion mixed-signal FPGA, an embedded 32-bit ARM® Cortex™-M1 pprocessor and Pigeon Point FPGA designs, board schematics and firmware. The kits accelerate the development of ATCA board and Advanced Mezzanine Card (AdvancedMC®) carrier board hardware platform management controllers based on the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) architecture and the PICMG® ATCA and AdvancedMC specifications.
"Designing the mandatory management controller on an ATCA board using a Fusion mixed-signal FPGA hardware platform management controller optimized for TCA gives designers the option of integrating additional board-specific logic into the FPGA, resulting in lower bill-of-materials costs and design simplicity," said Mark Overgaard, President at Pigeon Point Systems. "The kits are yet another step in Actel's and Pigeon Point's commitment to the TCA industry."
Fusion Mixed-Signal FPGAs
Actel's Fusion mixed-signal flash FPGAs incorporate analog functions, embedded flash memory, an embedded soft ARM Cortex-M1 processor and flexible FPGA fabric in a single chip. In addition, Fusion FPGAs integrate system management functions, such as voltage and temperature monitoring, and offer programmable flexibility, providing an implementation that reduces part count, board area and overall system cost, making it a compelling alternative to multiple discrete devices.
