Accelerated Technologys Nucleus PLUS Support for MIPS32 24K Core Family Supports Developers of Digital Consumer Devices

MOBILE, Ala., April 26, 2005

Accelerated Technology, a Mentor Graphics division (Nasdaq: MENT), today announced the availability of the Nucleus PLUS real-time kernel for the MIPS Technologies MIPS32 24K processor core family. The combination provides developers of digital consumer devices with a broad, high-performance solution with which to develop digital and interactive television, set-top boxes, DVD and other performance-driven applications.

Consumers worldwide are demanding more sophistication and richer features from all of their digital devices, said Jack Browne, vice president, worldwide sales for MIPS Technologies. Our collaboration with Accelerated Technology leverages the high performance and flexibility of the 24K cores and the speed and scalability of the Nucleus PLUS kernel to drive digital device development across the industry.

The high performance MIPS32 24K cores are designed to power graphics, Java and demanding code with features like an ultra fast multiply, intelligent caches, floating point support and the CorExtend capability  allowing users to supercharge application performance by defining and adding their own instructions. In addition, the 24K core family offers the highest known Java performance in the SoC industry  5000 Embedded CaffeineMark 3.0 at 625 MHz.

Accelerated Technology and MIPS Technologies together have powered many generations of digital consumer devices, said Robert Day, director of marketing, Mentor Graphics Embedded Systems Division. The speed and flexibility of both the Nucleus PLUS kernel and the 24K cores provide an ideal platform for the development of the latest generation of high-performance digital consumer devices.

The scalable, royalty-free Nucleus PLUS kernel--the basis of the Nucleus family of products, and a widely accepted kernel for building digital consumer applications--is ideal for the feature-rich capabilities that customers require from their multimedia applications. The Nucleus PLUS kernel provides efficient, high-performance task management, inter-task communication, inter-task synchronization, memory management and component query features. Optimizations in system clock, interrupt and compiler register usage are part of the advanced features provided by the Nucleus PLUS kernel. The kernel handles difficult issues such as priority inversion while minimizing the interrupt latency to a few microseconds.
