The role of sockets in platform based design: a case study of the OMAP platform
With NOR- and NAND-type flash memory jockeying for position, there's considerable debate over whether these technologies will coexist or compete. Semiconductor Insights' recent teardown of the NEC FOMA 900iL handset brings this question to bear.
FPGAs are at home in the world of multi-gigabit-per-second signal conversion and bridging. In high-bandwidth telecoms, network and data center equipment, the FPGA is a mainstay of system designs, offering a valuable combination of high-speed SerDes capability, extensive logic resources, and programmability, giving designers the flexibility to modify features and functions without changing their board layout.
Systems using SoCs designed in advanced processes generally rely on external Flash devices that use NOR/NAND Flash memory technology for non-volatile storage. NOR Flash memory offers many benefits for device manufacturers and consumers, such as faster reading, low power consumption, and smaller area. In contrast, NAND Flash memories are ideal for applications such as data storage, where higher memory capacity and faster write and erase operations are required.
In this article, we go through a formal-based, easy-to-deploy RISC-V processor verification application. We show how, together with a RISC-V ISA golden model and RISC-V compliance automatically generated checks, we can efficiently target bugs that would be out of reach for simulation.
