PMC-Sierra Partners With StorLink for Home NAS Technology
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- Nov. 28, 2005
-- StorLink Semiconductors today announced PMC-Sierra, Inc. has licensed StorLink's silicon-proven Centroid Network Attached Storage (NAS) technology to accelerate the delivery of network storage processors for simple, low-cost and secure network storage and networked entertainment applications.
"Unlike many solutions today that use general-purpose processors, StorLink's integration of dual HDD controllers and TCP/IP off-load Ethernet driver deliver superior performance at significantly lower price points," said Dr. Stewart Wu, CEO and President of StorLink. "StorLink's industry-leading network storage IP integration combined with PMC-Sierra's ability to integrate and test complex solutions is an excellent fit to deliver affordable and easy-to-use NAS products."
StorLink's Centroid NAS technology features multiple hard disk drive (HDD) controllers, hardware crypto engine and hardware TCP/IP off-load Ethernet driver. The superior network performance and the low bill of materials cost for the overall system makes Centroid technology-based SoCs ideal for SOHO NAS and home media server applications.
"Our customers require highly integrated network storage solutions that include built-in hard disk drive controllers and data encryption," said Dino Bekis, Vice President of Marketing and Applications, for PMC-Sierra's Communications Products Division. "Incorporating StorLink's Centroid NAS technology into PMC-Sierra's feature-rich network storage portfolio allows ODMs and OEMs to streamline and quickly develop simple, affordable home NAS solutions for file sharing, backup/restoration and digital media server applications."
