CAMBRIDGE, England -- ARM Ltd. here announced today that Oki Electric Industry Co. Ltd. has licensed the ARM920T core for use in high-performance W-CDMA, PDA and Internet devices. Oki will incorporate the advanced ARM core-based system solutions in its recently announced µPLAT development platform. "This agreement expands upon our existing relationship, extending our ARM core offerings to include members of the ARM7 and ARM9 Thumb families," said Yuki Ushida, general manager of market development for Oki. "With this new agreement, we will be able to quickly meet the wide range of our OEM customer's requirements, for everything from low- to high-end products." "The ARM architecture, coupled with Oki's LSI technology will reduce the time-to-market of highly integrated systems and enable a full range of innovative solutions for the evolving and fast growing market of Internet-enabled devices," said Reynette Au, vice president of worldwide marketing at ARM. ARM continues to meet the needs of its silicon and systems partners, and the embedded processor industry, by offering a complete system-on-chip design package, including processor cores, peripheral IP, development tools, application software, EDA tools and design services. The ARM architecture is supported by semiconductor and system manufacturers, real-time operating system providers, third-party toolchain developers, application software and ARM design centers. Oki will produce ARM920T core-based system LSI using its advanced 0.18-micron CMOS process, and begin sampling ARM920T core-based solutions in October.
