Oki Electric Adopts Elliptic Semiconductor's Ttechnology For Comprehensive DTCP Rights Management Solution
June 23, 2006 -- Ottawa, Canada -- Elliptic Semiconductor today announced that Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd., will be providing a robust, digital rights management solution for its next generation SoC based on Elliptic's security solution. Oki's SoC integrates a crypto offload engine from Elliptic that implements a high performance DTCP solution capable of supporting over 200 Mbps of encrypted content for use in audio, video and high-definition television applications across Firewire, USB, MOST and TCP/IP networks.
Oki and Elliptic worked closely on the creation of a complete robust security solution based on Elliptic's proprietary Embedded Security ModuleTM (ESM) technology. By leveraging an on-chip security design using a private AES context and SafeBISTTM to protect against attacks through the test port, Oki is able to deliver a solution perfectly suited for the cost sensitive consumer and automotive markets.
Elliptic has also licensed a comprehensive suite of middleware that offers a complete DTCP software stack which Oki will use to create a reference design for the new microcontroller. The middleware includes support for DTCP Source and Sink devices, Full and Restricted Authentication and the management of System Renewability as specified by the DTCP standard.
"Elliptic's technology and knowledge regarding a security-based system allowed us to rapidly develop a high-performance DTCP management solution," indicated Yoshio Ohtsuki, General Manager of Common Technology Development Division at Oki Electric. "We believe the digital right management solution will be a key technology for a home network as well as a car network."
"It has been a pleasure working with the team at Oki", indicated Richard White, President and CEO of Elliptic Semiconductor. "Oki is a creative and demanding customer with a zero defects philosophy that was inspiring for us to work with. We look forward to working closely with Oki to build design wins in Oki's customer base."
