LSI Logic unveils complete platform solution with low-cost, fully integrated StreamPack 24 X 2 intelligent switch
• Performance increased nearly 3 times by 143 MHz RISC ARM9® processor
• Pin, footprint and software compatible with the previous generation product
• Total solution significantly reduces customer time-to-market for Ethernet applications
TAIPEI, Taiwan, June 3, 2002 - Today at Computex Taipei, LSI Logic Corporation announced the availability of a single chip standard product, the StreamPack™ L64524 managed Ethernet switch platform. By providing a low-cost total switch solution including reference platforms, production-ready software, technical support and a solid product roadmap, LSI Logic provides a tremendous time-to-market advantage to the networking equipment manufacturer for desktop, enterprise, LAN, WAN and Voice over IP applications.
Fabricated using the LSI Logic 0.18-micron process technology with the core logic operating at 1.8 volts, the L64524 integrates 24 10/100 ports, two 10/100/1000 Gigabit ports and switch fabric with an embedded processor. Its internal MAC address table holds over 16,000 entries. By being the first in the Ethernet switch market to integrate a 143 MHz RISC ARM9® processor, LSI Logic has boosted the performance level of this device to nearly three times that of its predecessor. Two Gigabit uplinks provide connectivity to the backbone or local server farm, while priority queuing capabilities allow time sensitive data to access the network with minimal delay. The StreamPack L64524 is pin, footprint and software compatible with the previous generation product and is stackable.
Manufacturers can significantly reduce their time-to-market by combining the L64524 with the royalty-free StreamPack Managed Switch Software (SMSS) platform and comprehensive development kit to create a complete Layer 2 data network switch.
"The StreamPack L64524 is a feature-rich, market-ready solution that is a model of cost-effectiveness," said LSI Logic director of networking product marketing, Ahmad Khanssari. "LSI Logic has developed a long-term competitive system solution by combining the lowest component count (as compared to analogous switches), low power, cost-effective packaging, and managed software with a bill of material (BOM) of less than $160 per system. This performance and cost advantage positions LSI Logic to aggressively target the Layer 2 + switch Ethernet market."
SMSS features and benefits
- Royalty free, real-time embedded Configurable operating system (eCos™)
- Menu driven features such as simple network management protocol (SNMP), port monitoring, protocol filtering, VLAN support and tagging, priority tagging, IP multicast, port security, spanning tree protocol, port trunking and broadcast control
- Supports all industry protocols
LSI Logic submits its switch products to the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Lab to verify the interoperability and/or conformance of its computer communications products.
