Express Logic Brings High Performance to Cortex-M4 with ThreadX RTOS and NetX Duo TCP/IP Stack
February 2, 2012 -- Express Logic, Inc., the worldwide leader in royalty-free real-time operating systems (RTOS), today announced that it has ported its popular ThreadX RTOS and NetX TCP/IP stack to support a wide range of processors based on ARM’s Cortex-M4™. ThreadX has been deployed in over 1 billion electronic products in the areas of consumer electronics, medical devices, and industrial control systems—systems where Cortex-M4 is an ideal fit. NetX Duo™ has achieved near-wire speed on Cortex-M4-based platforms from Freescale and STMicroelectronics.
The ARM Cortex-M4 processor is the latest embedded processor by ARM specifically developed to address digital-signal control markets that demand an efficient, easy-to-use blend of control and signal-processing capabilities. The combination of high-efficiency signal-processing functionality with the Cortex-M family’s low power, low cost, and ease of use makes it an ideal, flexible solution for motor control, automotive, power management, embedded audio and industrial automation markets.
“ARM’s Cortex-M4 processor brings floating point and DSP to the already powerful M3, which is extremely popular among our customers,” commented William E. Lamie, President of Express Logic. “We have seen strong customer demand for ThreadX on M4-based processors from our semiconductor partners, and we expect Cortex-M4 to become one of our most popular ports of ThreadX.”
Express Logic’s ThreadX RTOS is a small, fast, royalty-free RTOS that provides priority-based preemptive scheduling, optimized context switching, and an intuitive, easy-to-use API. NetX Duo is Express Logic’s high-performance dual IPV4/IPv6 TCP/IP stack, that has been shown to deliver near-wire speed on Cortex-M4 platforms, including Freescale’s Kinetis K40/K60 and STMicroelectronics’ STM32F407. In addition, ThreadX supports all other announced Cortex-M4-based processors, including Atmel’s AT91SAM4S and NXP’s LPC43xx.
