Discretix to Demo CPRM Content Protection At Wireless Japan 2008 On TI OMAP3 Platform And M-Shield Security
INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION CENTER / TOKYO, JAPAN — 14 July, 2008 - Discretix, the leading provider of embedded security and DRM (Digital Rights Management) solutions for mobile devices and flash memory, today announced a uniquely cost-effective, high performance DRM solution implementing the CPRM (Content Protection for Recordable Media) specification at Wireless Japan 2008. The solution, being demonstrated at the Texas Instruments Booth (C-031), utilizes Discretix’ CPRM client software integrated with TI’s OMAP™ 3 application processor and M-Shield™ security technology.
Discretix’ CPRM solution offers significant advantages for mobile device manufacturers. CPRM, developed by the 4C Entity, is the most widely deployed content protection system for SD Memory Card in Japan. The Discretix solution implements CPRM without the need for a dedicated CPRM hardware chip; it also builds on the proven track record of Discretix DRM solutions with TI’s M-Shield technology, a partnership established in 2006.
In addition, Discretix DRM offers innovative SD-Binding that delivers high performance features including fast forward, rewind and file skip for both audio and video files. Finally, the solution incorporates Discretix’ Multi-Scheme technology that allows OEMs to extend and/or add the widest number of content protection schemes including Secure iMode, PlayReady, WM-DRM, OMA DRM, OMA BCAST and Secure Mobile TV recording.
“Cost reduction, flexibility, compliance with operator’s requirements and short time-to-market are extremely important to the device manufacturer,” said Edo Ganot, EVP Sales and Business Development for Discretix. “The integration of TI’s M-Shield hardware-based security and Discretix’ CPRM security client on the TI OMAP 3 platform gives device OEMs the design advantage, industry-standard content protection, and future-proofed DRM architecture they need.”
TI’s OMAP 3 processors with M-Shield technology are exceptional choices for mobile device manufacturers seeking the latest features and fastest performance. M-Shield technology is the key security element of the TI OMAP platform, offering a complete menu of security capabilities.
“With mobile devices playing an increasingly central role in entertainment and related services, the need for cost-effective, standards-based DRM solutions offering fast time-to-market is essential,” said Markus Tremmel, worldwide wireless ecosystem manager, Texas Instruments. “We believe the Discretix Multi-Scheme DRM client leveraging TI’s complete M-Shield hardware backed security platform on OMAP 3 devices, is an exceptional choice that meets not only these requirements, but also delivers the speed of operation OEMs and end-users demand.”
A part of its Multi-Scheme DRM offering, Discretix’ CPRM client supports all CPRM formats including SD-Binding, SD-Audio, SD-Video and SD-Separate Delivery (SD-SD). The low power consumption CPRM client enhances overall system security by ensuring that protected content and secret keys are never exposed, and can be used in parallel to other CPRM schemes to ensure support for multiple standards on a single device.
“Content access technologies play important roles as both enablers and protectors of music, video, games and TV. 4C Entity’s CPRM technology allows such forms of entertainment to be enjoyed by a broad audience across many different devices and platforms,” said Stephen Balogh, President of 4C Entity.
Discretix’ and TI’s CPRM Content Protection solution is being exhibited at Wireless Japan 2008, TI exhibit, Booth (C-031) in the Tokyo Big Sight International Convention Center.
