Blu Wireless appoints CSR co-founder as non-exec director
November 21, 2013 -- 60GHz wireless specialist, Blu Wireless has appointed the CSR co-founder, Glenn Collinson to the role of non-executive director.
In addition to this role, Glenn will also remain on Blu Wireless's advisory board, which he joined in August 2013 alongside ARM's founding CEO Robin Saxby and Bristol University's wireless expert, Professor Andy Nix.
Blu Wireless CEO, Henry Nurser, said: “We’re delighted Glenn has agreed to dedicate more of his time and energy to advance our leadership position in the 60GHz IP space and his decision is a strong endorsement of both our technology and the 60GHz band’s market potential.
“Glenn’s experience and knowledge of building successful technology businesses to address new wireless markets is invaluable”.
Glenn co-founded CSR as a Bluetooth start up in 1998. Glenn served as the company’s sales director and its executive vice president until May 2007 and was responsible for one of the great commercial success stories of UK technology start-ups, taking it to become one of the world’s biggest publicly listed wireless chip firms.
Prior to founding CSR, he served as senior engineer and then marketing manager at Cambridge Consultants and has also held senior technical roles at Texas Instruments, Motorola and Racal. He now sits on the advisory and executive boards at several European technology companies and is a member of the IET.
As non-executive director, Glenn will help Blu Wireless take its 60 GHz HYDRA baseband IP offering for 802.11ad next generation WiFi (WiGig Certified) and 4G mobile network backhaul applications to companies seeking to enter these new high-speed data transmission markets.
Blu Wireless’s baseband IP is optimised for chipsets used in tri-band WiFi and 4G small cell deployments. It has been created to let companies quickly establish themselves in the rapidly growing 60GHz chip market, with their uniquely flexible and scalable industry leading technology.
The IP is sold under license agreement and Blu Wireless is already working with several of the world’s leading semiconductor and system companies in these markets.
