Applied Microsystems Introduces Emulator Support for Motorola's MPC7410(TM)
REDMOND, Wash., May 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Applied Microsystems Corporation (Nasdaq: APMC) has introduced the PowerTAP(TM) emulator for Motorola's MPC7410 PowerPC(TM) microprocessor, making Applied the first in the industry to offer emulation support for the MPC7410.
PowerTAP is a miniature emulator that has been designed specifically by Applied for embedded system engineers and developers working on demanding, high-performance applications in the telecommunications industry. The MPC7410 microprocessor from Motorola is the second of the company's fourth-generation (G4) PowerPC microprocessors -- and has been designed for high-performance, high-bandwidth network control and storage, telecommunications, high-end embedded, scientific and computing applications.

PowerTAP offers full visibility and control of the processor's core registers, bit-fields, memory, and AltiVec registers and instruction set -- giving developers greater insight into the chip to speed up the debug and testing phases of their development process. The emulator also offers flexible, high-speed flash memory download capabilities.
PowerTAP provides a powerful means to debug and test complex new networking systems that leverage the advanced performance and flexibility of the MPC7410, according to Steve Dearden, vice president of marketing for Applied Microsystems.

PowerTAP offers critical COP/JTAG debugging capabilities within the overall PowerPC development environment. PowerTAP combines a palm-sized, portable form factor with robust debug functionality furnishing unparalleled visibility into the processor's internal operations. Used in conjunction with Applied's CodeTEST® and LiveCODE(TM) products, PowerTAP provides developers full control of the processor and real-time source-level trace, as well as code patching, performance, memory, and code coverage analysis specifically designed to meet the needs of the embedded developer.
PowerTAP is the only emulator that offers a full-featured cache display window; MMU (memory management unit) support for memory translation and paging; fast flash programming; and master/slave support for multiprocessor system debugging. The MWX-ICE debugger us included with PowerTap. This proprietary debugger directly supports industry-leading PowerPC compilers, including Metrowerks, GNU, Green Hills, MetaWare and Diab through Elf/Dwarf and Stabs readers.

PowerTAP for the Motorola MPC7410 is available immediately. It is available to currently supported users at no additional cost. Prices for new users start at $5,490 (US).
