Additional Licensing for RF Engines' PFT
Expanding UK Intellectual Property firm brings technology to market 19th March 2002 - RF Engines Limited (RFEL), the British high technology company based on the Isle of Wight has announced the granting of another evaluation licence to a department of the UK Ministry of Defence for its Pipelined Frequency Transform (PFT) technology. This news is on the back of two successful deals with undisclosed US defence manufacturers. The PFT, which was initially developed for commercial communication and instrumentation products, is generating substantial interest within the defence market, both in Europe and US. This initial licence, which has been granted for an undisclosed sum, will enable the MOD to model its characteristics for a variety of applications. Simon Underhay of RFEL stated: “We are extremely pleased to be working with the MOD during this evaluation phase. Our goal is the generation of a number of PFT designs for various applications. Obviously the long-term prospect is for design-in of the technology to future defence products.” RFEL licenses its technology, in the form of IP blocks or “Engines” that are incorporated into chips along with other IP by licensees to form single chip solutions for applications that require real time, simultaneous processing of a wide band of RF (Radio Frequency) signals. These include base stations, fixed wireless broadband systems, satellite communications systems, test and measurement instrumentation, and defence systems. RF Engines Limited (RFEL) is a UK based designer of high specification signal processing cores, sold as intellectual property (IP) for inclusion in SoC and semiconductor devices in the defence, communications and instrumentation markets. More specifically it is a solutions provider for projects requiring complex front end, real time, wide and narrow band, flexible channelisation. RFEL provides a range of standard cores covering multiple FFT and unique PFT techniques, as well as design services for specialist applications.
