ISS Reed-Solomon IP cores offer 1.6-Gigabit/s channel-coding for US DTV, European DVB, Intelsat
ISS' REED-SOLOMON IP CORES OFFER 1.6-GIGABIT/S CHANNEL-CODING FOR US DTV, EUROPEAN DVB, INTELSAT
"Shrink-wrapped" Encoder and Decoder cores target broadband communications applications for SoC, ASIC and FPGA
San Jose, California (Oct 16, 2000): Integrated Silicon Systems, The Multimedia ASVC Company[tm], today announced the immediate availability of a new family of six high-performance Reed-Solomon Encoder and Reed-Solomon Decoder application specific virtual components (ASVCs). Aimed at broadband communications and digital television broadcast applications, the CS3100 Encoder series and CS3200 Decoder series are the first products in the company's Communications Channel-Coding product line. ISS' CS3000 series products support system data rates of up to 1.6-Gigabit/sec and offer user-configurable code-word lengths and correction power - making these ASVCs ideal for all new broadband digital communications systems.
"The explosion in communications bandwidth, particularly in new wireless standards such as 3G and fixed broadband, is driving data rates up by 10x to 1000x that of previous generation systems," remarked Jordan Selburn, Director of Product Marketing, ISS. "Hardware based solutions, including ISS' Channel Coding ASVCs, are the perfect solution to meet the mounting demands of these new systems."
Broadband applications
The ongoing demand for faster data rates makes hardwired solutions essential for applications such as high-performance digital video and audio, cable and satellite broadcast or high-rate LAN/WAN applications. In addition, the CS3100 and CS3200 product families provide support for a variety of international standards including US-standard Digital Television (DTV), European-standard Digital Video Broadcast (DVB) and Intelsat-compliant geo-synchronous orbit communications satellite.
CS3000 series ASVCs
The initial versions of the products (see product list below) differ only in the supported Reed-Solomon field and generator polynomials allowing compliance with a variety of international standards such as: European DVB standards ETS 300 421, ETS 300 429 and ETS 300 744; US Digital Television Standard ATSC A/53; and Intelsat IESS 308/309.
CS3000 series standards compliance
- CS3110 Encoder and CS3210 Decoder - DVB compliant
- CS3111 Encoder and CS3211 Decoder - DVB compliant with fixed codeword length
- CS3112 Encoder and CS3212 Decoder - Intelsat compliant
The CS3000 series Communications Channel-Coding ASVCs are immediately available and can be purchased directly from ISS or its sales representatives. Pricing ranges from $5K to $40K for single project use. Product datasheets are downloadable from http://www.iss-asvc.com/products.
Optima[tm] and Celerity[tm]- pre-optimized IP core solutions
The company's unique CS3000 series further expands the extensive portfolio of ASVCs for multimedia communications applications. ISS' ASVCs comprise a rich source of fully optimized "Firm IP" solutions for single-chip realization of complex systems incorporating image and speech compression, communications channel coding, and digital signal processing. Previously, these systems were implemented in silicon using a selection of discrete ASSPs devices from a variety of different semiconductor suppliers. For ASIC implementations fabricated using standard cell libraries, ISS offers its process-portable Optima core solutions; "off-the-shelf" versions of Optima cores are available for the leading wafer foundries. For FPGA users, ISS offers architecture-optimized Celerity core solutions, versions of which are available for programmable logic device families from Altera and Xilinx.
