MELBOURNE, Fla., April 12, 2011 – AuthenTec (NASDAQ: AUTH), a leading provider of security and identity management solutions, today announced the commercial availability of an industry standards-based downloadable digital rights management (DRM) client solution on Android-based phones and tablets as well as iOS-based devices including Apple’s iPhone and iPad.  According to the Nielsen Company, the fastest growing smartphone operating systems during 2010 were Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS.

AuthenTec’s downloadable DRM Fusion Agent allows operators to more quickly deploy secure content services and to limit license fees only to clients who opt for premium services, dramatically reducing DRM implementation costs and time to market.  It also enables media companies and high-value content providers to more quickly achieve revenue from service deployment by eliminating dependence on mobile phone and device manufacturers for embedded DRM protection.

AuthenTec’s solution allows distributing protected high value content in a single uniform and secure way for all the supported platforms and devices. It is designed to interoperate with any existing DRM servers the customer has deployed, and complemented by a plug-and-play version of AuthenTec’s DRM Fusion Server for customers without an existing DRM server. AuthenTec’s unique ability to provide end-to-end content protection from the client to the server enables immediate deployment.

DRM Fusion Agent is a client-side software solution that supports PlayReady, Windows Media DRM (WMDRM), OMA 1.0, OMA 2.X, and UltraViolet.  It fully complies with all Microsoft PlayReady, WMDRM as well as OMA DRM features and robustness rules, and is delivered as a complete solution ready to be integrated with a branded user interface.  DRM Fusion Agent is being deployed as a downloadable application that can be distributed by various app stores, significantly increasing the potential to distribute DRM-protected PlayReady content to mobile devices.  AuthenTec’s solution works seamlessly in Android- and iOS-based devices with minimal to no action required from end users and supports file based PlayReady protection including progressive download as well as streaming media including PlayReady protected adaptive video streaming both with Smooth Streaming and HTTP Live Streaming.
