Xilinx Spartan-3E FPGAs Enable JVC's Latest Professional Broadcast HDV Camera-Recorder
JVC looks to Xilinx programmable technology to achieve substantial cost reduction and enhance features of latest HDV camera-recorder
SAN JOSE, Calif., November 14, 2006 –Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX), the world leader in programmable logic solutions, today announced that Victor Company of Japan, Limited (JVC) has adopted Xilinx low-cost Spartan™-3E field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) for their latest handheld high definition video (HDV) GY–HD 250 series camera-recorder. Xilinx programmable devices provided JVC with the competitive edge by substantially reducing development costs and providing faster time-to-market and improved functionality. Launched October 2006, the GY-HD 250 series features two HDV formats, progressive and interlace, thus fully covering 720p/50:60 format while allowing output of 1080i/50:60 format. The GY-HD 250 series also features SD/HD-SDI output with embedded audio/time-code.

JVC and Xilinx Spartan-3 Generation – A Design Legacy
In 2005, JVC developed a professional HDV series boasting features such as high image quality and system performance and mobility, aimed at the professional video market (e.g. digital broadcasting, digital cinema and video service markets.) The flagship product of this series, the Spartan-3 FPGAs enabled HDV camera-recorder GY-HD100, received the prestigious ‘Good Design Award’ (the only comprehensive design evaluation and commendation system in Japan) from Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organization and was also awarded a National Association of Broadcaster’s (NAB) award for ‘Innovation in Media’ at NAB 2005. The GY-HD 250 series is the higher grade type of this award-winning model.
