SuperH Issues SH-4 Core License to Tvia
32-bit RISC Core Attractive for Multi-media Designs
San Jose, California; Bristol, UK; and Tokyo, Japan, - 23 September 2002 - SuperH, Inc., a world leader in RISC microprocessor IP licensing, today announced that Tvia, Inc. (NASDAQ: TVIA), a leading provider of multi-media display processors for the advanced TV and emerging display markets, has signed an agreement to license the SH-4 microprocessor IP core from SuperH. Tvia has the license to use the SH-4 core in system-on-chip (SoC) designs for integrating into a single device, the CyberPro multi-media display processors with the SH-4 RISC processing core.
''The agreement gives us greater flexibility in our product development path. By having the ability to combine the SH-4 core with our CyberPro display processors we can create a variety of SoC options, and further our position as the company with desirable products and technologies for the emerging interactive viewing market,'' said Arvind Kumar, Tvia's director of product marketing. ''SuperH, Inc. is delivering IP cores with capabilities for addressing the processing needs of this market. Together with our IP, we can deliver solutions that are optimal for several applications.''
''Our license agreement with Tvia for the SH-4 is an excellent example of how SuperH™ microprocessors can provide added value in an SoC multimedia design,'' said Rick Chapman, vice president of marketing and sales for SuperH, Inc. ''We expect that the ultimate beneficiary of this collaboration will be the end user who may enjoy the products that can be designed and developed from the combination of each company's IP''.
The SH-4, 32-bit RISC core is targeted at embedded processing applications such as digital consumer, automotive and telecommunications. It can run a wide variety of
application software on industry standard operating systems and middleware, making it easy to incorporate into designs.
