Novatek Adopts CEVA-MM3101 Imaging and Vision DSP for Its Next-Generation SoCs
Taiwan's second largest fabless IC supplier to deploy CEVA's powerful DSP for surveillance, action camera and automotive markets
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Nov. 6, 2014 -- CEVA, Inc. (NASDAQ: CEVA), the leading licensor of DSP-based IP platforms for vision, audio, communications and connectivity, today announced that Novatek Microelectronics Corp., a leading fabless chip design company, has selected the CEVA-MM3101 imaging and vision DSP to power its next-generation System-on-Chips (SoC) targeting the surveillance, action camera and automotive markets. Novatek will integrate the programmable CEVA-MM3101 into their SoC designs to add powerful computer vision capabilities including scene analysis, machine vision, depth mapping and object detection in a flexible and power efficient manner.
"Integrating advanced vision processing capabilities with our imaging SoCs allows our customers to design products offering a new level of interactivity with the real world and show real product differentiation," Tommy Chen, Vice President at Novatek. "The CEVA-MM3101 imaging and vision DSP provides the processing horsepower while extending the device battery life and flexibility to implement innovative, intelligent imaging algorithms for any end application."
"We are pleased to partner with Novatek and excited by the potential offered by integrating our advanced imaging and vision DSP into their SoC roadmap," said Gideon Wertheizer, CEO of CEVA. "This is another instance of the growing popularity of the CEVA-MM3101 as a dedicated processor for computer vision and enables Novatek and their customers to reuse the design to address multiple market segments."
Novatek will be presenting their first product utilizing the CEVA-MM3101 at CEVA Symposium series, November 21st in Hsinchu Taiwan. For more information, visit http://events.ceva-dsp.com/symposium-series14/
The CEVA-MM3101 imaging and vision DSP addresses the extreme processing requirements of the most sophisticated computational photography and computer vision applications such as video analytics, augmented reality and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). By offloading these performance-intensive tasks from the CPUs and GPUs, the highly-efficient CEVA-MM3101 dramatically reduces the power consumption of the overall system, while providing complete flexibility. The platform includes a vector DSP developed specifically to deal with the complexities of such applications and an extensive Application Development Kit (ADK) to enable easy development environment. The CEVA ADK includes an Android Multimedia Framework (AMF) that streamlines software development and integration effort, a set of advanced software development tools and a range of software products and libraries optimized for the DSP.
