Hantro and Bitboys Demonstrate Joint Video and 3D Graphics Solution for Mobile Devices at Symbian Smartphone Show
Convergence of Technologies Set to Enable New Level of Advanced Multimedia Experience on Mobile Handsets
Oulu, Finland – October 10th, 2005 - Hantro, a world leader in mobile multimedia technology and Bitboys, a leading provider of 3D and vector graphics IP solutions for wireless ICs, will be demonstrating a combined solution of video and 3D graphics technology for mobile devices at the Symbian Smartphone Show, held at ExCel Centre, London, UK, October 11th and 12th, 2005.
The demonstration, showcased at the Hantro booth (#134), integrates the Bitboys G34 3D graphics processor, running on an ARM FPGA emulation platform, with Hantro’s 4100 MPEG-4 software video decoder. The demonstration application features a rotating 3D object with video displayed on each side. This combination of video and graphics, opens new possibilities for the future of advanced mobile multimedia and user interface design.
"Hantro and Bitboys are focused on delivering solutions for the mobile environment in which CPU resources and power consumption are limiting factors," said Mr. Eero Kaikkonen, President and CEO of Hantro. "This proof of concept demonstration clearly shows the possibilities that combining our respective technologies can deliver."
"The growth in mobile device processing power has been counterbalanced by a continued drive towards smaller, more compact products. At the same time, users demand more exciting, higher-quality visual content from their mobile phones. We expect that low-power high-performance graphics processors, combined with the most advanced video technology, will enable mobile devices to become the ubiquitous entertainment platforms of the future," said Mr. Mikko Saari, CEO, Bitboys.
The Bitboys G34 is an efficient 3D graphics processor with the OpenGL® ES 1.1 feature set. The processor supports scenes with tens of thousands of polygons, rendered with full anti-aliasing and 32-bit color at more than 30 frames per second for an immersive gaming experience. Over the next few years, this technology will enable high-quality, lifelike detail in 3D games and other visual content on consumer-level mobile devices.
The Hantro 4100 is a pure software MPEG-4 video decoder that enables flexible streaming and playback of high-quality video on mobile devices. Video image size, bit rates and frame rates are unlimited, dependent only on the capacity of the host CPU.
