D&R Creates Intellectual Property Packaging and Delivery Platform for Alcatel

Anaheim, CA - May 27, 2003 - Following several years of cooperation, D&R and Alcatel today announced a new agreement that will put in place a comprehensive intranet intellectual property (IP) reuse infrastructure covering IP from both external suppliers and internally-developed reusable blocks.  This innovative solution will provide advanced techniques for IP publishing, packaging, and delivery within Alcatel’s intranet environment, reducing risk and facilitating access to a variety of IP cores.

"Alcatel qualified" external supplier catalogues are currently under implementation within Alcatel’s firewall using D&R’s IP Manager Series™ technology, based on a mirroring process from the D&R gateway. With this gateway, IP providers fill in data on their IP and automatic updates are made in the Alcatel intranet catalogue.
"We had already been convinced by the data import mechanisms offered by D&R in the past," commented Francois Kleitz, IP technical manager at Alcatel Hardware Coordination. "Adopting their technology makes the import of the IP suppliers’ data significantly more straightforward."

"Jennic has worked with D&R for several years using their web site and systems to provide information on Jennic IP to the world-wide design community" said Jim Lindop, CEO, Jennic Ltd. "Having been qualified and audited by Alcatel for the quality of Jennic IP we are extremely pleased that access and understanding of what Jennic can offer to Alcatel designers will be made easier. We have seen an increase in IP management planning within larger organisations and expect more approved IP supplier catalogs in the near future."

The agreement with Alcatel extends the integration of D&R’s IP packaging and delivery platform with the goal of collecting IP files while packaging the cores to corporate standards and allowing an easy and controlled delivery to the user. This process is facilitated by a second D&R software module called Design Manager.

To prove the concept, Altera Corporation’s IP portfolio has been imported to Alcatel’s IP repository. Altera’s IP cores can be directly downloaded by Alcatel designers after searching in the intranet catalogue without the need to search beyond Alcatel’s corporate firewall.

"Offering highly parameterizable, packaged IP that is optimized for Altera’s FPGAs, is the first step toward accelerating any customer’s time to market" said Justin Cowling, Altera’s director of intellectual property marketing. "The next step is to publish that IP within Alcatel’s firewall, making our IP cores more easily accessible to Alcatel designers. We look forward to working with D&R as we explore further opportunities to offer similar IP distribution services to customers."

As far as internal IP cores are concerned, the publishing process consists of capturing the skills and practices of Alcatel design sites by leveraging XML delivery profiles. Designers can then participate in an IP exchange with a clear understanding of the delivered files.

"Having a unified approach for managing reusable blocks from external suppliers as well as internal IP helps us to significantly promote design reuse practices within our company," said Thierry Pfirsch, competence manager for ASIC/FPGA at Alcatel Hardware Coordination.

"This long-term cooperation helps D&R to refine its reuse technology and services offerings and will hopefully trigger the design reuse practice worldwide" concludes Gabriele Saucier, chair of D&R.
