OPEN Alliance TC14 10BASE-T1S Topology Discovery IP

The CT25210 Topology Discovery (TD) IP coordinates all operations required to perform 10BASE-T1S topology discovery measurements.

Overview

The CT25210 Topology Discovery (TD) IP coordinates all operations required to perform 10BASE-T1S topology discovery measurements. It integrates several functional blocks, each responsible for a specific phase of configuration, training, measurement, and signal handling within the discovery process. At the top level, the TD Manager supervises the measurement flow and configuration setup. Within this block, the TD Mode Manager manages the receive-only operating mode and distributes the necessary clock signals to other TD modules.

The PMD Configurator handles the transition of the Physical Medium Dependent (PMD) layer into and out of Topology Discovery mode, managing the sequence of configuration steps required for proper synchronization with the PHY. Measurement execution is distributed between the Delay Measurement Manager which performs internal delay and distance measurement protocols, respectively. Signal generation and acquisition are handled by the TD Pulse Manager, which initiates and transmits the TD_Pulse onto the line, and by the TX and RX Drivers. The TX Driver routes the generated signals to the transceiver’s TX pin and verifies the correctness of the pulse duration, while the RX Driver performs descrambling and manages both Energy Detect (ED) and RX signal handling during discovery operations. Inter-module communication is managed by the Routing Driver. Finally, the DLY Line block introduces a controlled delay between the detected ED event and the subsequent TX response. This delay ensures timing alignment and protocol compliance as defined by the OPEN Alliance 10BASE-T1S Topology Discovery specification (V1.0).

Three Ethernet Design Challenges in Industrial Automation

As factories, process plants, and robotics platforms become increasingly intelligent and interconnected, the demand for stable, low-latency data links has pushed Ethernet deeper into embedded systems. However, since designing Ethernet connectivity into industrial chips comes with its technical and logistical hurdles, engineers may face challenges when implementing Ethernet in industrial designs.

Powering Scale Up and Scale Out with 224G SerDes for UALink and Ultra Ethernet

At the recent ECOC 2025 conference in Copenhagen, Cadence showcased its key role in enabling the future of AI infrastructure with live silicon demonstrations of several essential IP technologies for emerging 800G and 1.6T networks. Powered by Cadence's 224G SerDes IP, Cadence's Ultra Accelerator Link (UALink 1.0) scale-up and Ultra Ethernet scale-out networking solutions deliver the performance, flexibility, and interoperability needed for next-generation AI factories and hyperscale data centers.

Ultra Ethernet Security: Protecting AI/HPC at Scale

As artificial intelligence and high-performance computing (AI/HPC) reshape industries, the need for robust, scalable, and secure connectivity has never been greater. Built from tightly integrated CPUs, GPUs, and SmartNICs, today’s compute clusters demand high-throughput, low-latency networks that can scale from die-to-die to multi-rack deployments.
