Complete USB Type-C Power Delivery IP

USB Power Delivery is the new standard for powering consumer electronic devices through USB Type-C cabling.

Overview

USB Power Delivery is the new standard for powering consumer electronic devices through USB Type-C cabling. Since the technology drives up to 100 Watts at 20V, many more devices, such as external disk drives, Notebooks, and Tablets can now be powered through USB, without other power connections.

Obsidian silicon proven USB Power Delivery IP includes:

  • Mixed signal Analog Front End Macros for 65n, 130n, 150nm, and 180n technologies.
  • RTL code from AFE to I2C compatible register set.
  • Stand alone C code for Protocol, Device Policy Manager, and System Policy Manager.
  • IP demonstration & development board, with compliance reports.
  • Full chip integration of USB Type-C, and associated software.

With first USB Power Delivery silicon demonstrated in November 2011, Obsidian Technology offers the industries first, and most complete set of USB Power Delivery IP. This includes, transceiver chip, protocol layer, and device policy technology. In addition, demonstration, and development boards are available for product evaluation and customization.

We provide either source or object level Power Delivery IP. For source IP, we provide much more than the conventional “black box” IP model. Rather, an option to own and customize the technology.

What Designers Need to Know About USB Low-Power States

In addition to performance and interoperability, achieving low power has been one of the requirements for industry standards specifications. Some of the key specifications like Universal Serial Bus (USB), PCI Express (PCIe), and MIPI have defined power saving features for burst traffic. This whitepaper explains how Synopsys USB IP offers low power using various low power states that go beyond the basic features.
