Xilinx Delivers Industry's First 667 Mbps DDR2 SDRAM Interface Solution
Virtex-4(TM) FPGA-Based Solution Uses Unique ChipSync(TM) Technology to Provide Unmatched Reliability
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Jan. 31, 2006 -- Xilinx Inc. (Nasdaq: XLNX) today announced the immediate availability of the Virtex(TM)-4 FPGA based 667 Mbps DDR2 Reference Design delivering the highest bandwidth, most reliable memory interface solution in the FPGA industry. The Xilinx 667 DDR2-SDRAM interface uses the innovative Virtex-4 ChipSync(TM) technology, a run-time calibration circuit that significantly improves design margins and overall system reliability while reducing design cycles. Xilinx will showcase the new solution at DesignCon 2006 held February 6-9 in Santa Clara, Calif.
Virtex-4 FPGAs take the guesswork out of memory interface design, enabling systems designers to build reliable high performance interfaces for memory technologies such as the latest 667Mbps DDR2 SDRAMs. The combination of Virtex-4 advanced silicon features, hardware proven reference designs and the easy-to-use Xilinx Memory Interface Generator tool provides the ultimate in design flexibility and reliability. Xilinx memory solutions are verified in hardware using memory devices from industry leaders like Micron and Samsung, including the new 667 Mbps DDR2 reference design available for free download at http://www.xilinx.com/memory.
"Xilinx and Micron share a common objective to validate and provide market-leading memory solutions for a wide variety of applications from lowest cost to highest-performance," said Terry Lee, executive director of Advanced Technology and Strategic Marketing for Micron's System Memory Group. "Micron is pleased to work with Xilinx to ensure that a wide variety of memory technologies work seamlessly with Xilinx FPGAs. Micron DDR2-667 DRAM with Virtex-4 FPGAs provides customers with a higher-bandwidth memory solution than previously available."
"The Virtex-4 memory interface solutions enable system designers to build highly flexible, high bandwidth memory systems resulting in more competitive and robust end products," said M. H. Kim, director, Technical Marketing at Samsung Semiconductor, a business unit of Samsung Electronics, Ltd., the world leader in advanced memory technology. "As a leading supplier of high- performance memory technologies, such as DDR2 SDRAMs and QDR II SRAMs, we see a clear need for memory interface solutions, such as the Xilinx Virtex-4 FPGA, that are designed to support the highest performance standards."
ChipSync technology simplifies the implementation of memory interfaces by compensating for routing, process, temperature, and voltage variations that produce skew between data and clock signals that may not be correctly estimated at design time. This unique feature alleviates post-design adjustments and significantly improves design cycles and overall system reliability. As proven by lab results, Virtex-4 FPGAs also deliver the industry's best signal integrity for high speed memory interface designs.
The user-friendly Memory Interface Generator software tool supports any device/package combination, providing system designers with the additional flexibility to easily customize their design. The reference designs, available in Verilog or VHDL, use a modular approach to provide distinct physical layer, user interface and controller blocks.
